Orsoy is a small Rhine town in the Lower Rhine district, and like hundreds of German municipalities in the early 1920s, its Stadtkasse issued its own emergency paper money — Notgeld — to address the acute coin shortage that followed the First World War. These fractional issues were a local administrative necessity, not a banking instrument, and their circulation rarely extended beyond the issuing town's own commerce.
Carl Schleicher & Schüll of Düren, a well-established paper and printing firm, handled a substantial volume of municipal Notgeld contracts during this period. The reference splits suggest at least two distinct sub-varieties within this issue, likely differing in serial numbering or minor typographic detail.
