| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in red and tan on cream paper, with a decorative stippled underprint border at left and right margins. Two nude putti are seated symmetrically at lower left and lower right, flanking a central circular municipal coat of arms of Montabaur rendered in blue and brown. The upper portion carries the issuing authority inscription in bold Gothic blackletter script, with the date and two manuscript facsimile signatures of the Magistrat and the Stadtverordnetenvorsteher inscribed in the central field. |

Montabaur's 1920 notgeld issue came from Gebrüder Parcus in Munich, a firm that handled an enormous volume of German municipal emergency currency during this period and brought genuine craft to what could easily have been throwaway printing. Karl Staudinger's involvement as designer places this above the purely functional end of the notgeld spectrum.
