The body carries a letterpress text in Fraktur pledging redemption by the Stadtkasse until 31 March 1919, with the denomination spelled out as 'Zehn Pfennig.' in bold and the numeral value '10 Pfennig.' printed in large red Gothic type at centre, flanked by short red rules; the invalidation notice 'Ungültig nach dem 31. März 1919.' appears at the foot. A circular violet official stamp of the Stadtkasse is visible as an authentication mark. |

Allendorf an der Werra is a small town in Hesse, and its 1917 notgeld issue belongs to the first wave of municipal emergency currency forced on German local authorities when Reichsbank coin — particularly the lower denominations — vanished from circulation almost entirely after 1916. The metal was needed for the war effort; the pfennig notes filled the gap.
The official stamp as the primary security feature is characteristic of the earliest municipal issues, before printers began incorporating more elaborate authentication. An unstamped example of this type is effectively invalid by the issuer's own terms.
