10 Pesos Zanclus canescens, Reverse Trial

Cuba's naturalist coin program from the early 2000s produced numerous reverse trials — die-struck pieces used to evaluate design execution before full production runs were authorized. This specimen, testing the reverse design for the Moorish idol (Zanclus canescens) issue, would have been struck at Casa de la Moneda in limited numbers purely for technical assessment, not release.

The Moorish idol series was part of a broader Cuban effort to monetize collector demand for Caribbean marine fauna through foreign-distributed silver issues — revenue that bypassed the domestic peso economy entirely.
