The "Decreto-Ley" overprint on this series reflects a specific legal mechanism used by the Argentine military government that took power in March 1976 — decree-laws were the junta's instrument for bypassing a suspended legislature, and their appearance on circulating currency was a deliberate assertion of institutional authority.
