Obverse description The current Mexican national arms occupies the center of the field, depicting an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus and devouring a serpent, rendered in high relief against a mirror-like proof field. Surrounding the central device are ten smaller renditions of the historical Mexican national arms arranged in a ring, representing the evolution of the coat of arms through different periods of Mexican history. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs around the upper portion of the central arms, between the central device and the surrounding historical shields.
