This piece belongs to Banco de México's long-running series of collector issues tied to individual Mexican states, each released under the broader numismatic program that ran through the mid-2000s. Puebla's inclusion reflects the state's historical weight — it was the site of the Battle of May 5, 1862, in which Mexican forces under General Ignacio Zaragoza repelled a French Imperial advance, an engagement that gave the world Cinco de Mayo as a cultural marker while doing relatively little to alter the ultimate French occupation that followed within the year.
