The State of Oaxaca issued its own gold coinage in 1915 under the Soberanía de Oaxaca, a separatist provisional government that declared independence from Carranza's Constitutionalist faction during the Mexican Revolution's most fractured phase. With federal supply lines severed and outside currency distrusted, Oaxaca minted its own gold pieces at sharply reduced fineness — the .175 gold content reflects genuine material scarcity, not a policy decision to debase.
The "short unfinished truncation" variety is a die state distinction within this type, catalogued separately precisely because production conditions at the Oaxaca mint were inconsistent enough to generate meaningful variation across strikes.
