El Banco Argentino was one of several provincial banks chartered in Córdoba during the brief window of liberal banking expansion that preceded Argentina's financial consolidation under the 1890s reforms. The denomination in pesos plata boliviana — Bolivian silver pesos — rather than pesos fuertes or pesos moneda corriente reflects the monetary fragmentation still operating in the interior provinces at this date, where Bolivian silver coinage remained the practical transactional currency long after it had been officially phased out elsewhere.
American Bank Note Company's New York engraving work on provincial Argentine issues from this period is generally considered superior to anything produced locally, and the Córdoba bank clearly paid for quality it may not have needed for long — the institution's lifespan was short, and surviving examples of the PS1481 are genuinely scarce.
