Colombia's Banco de la República contracted Thomas De La Rue for this series during a period of significant monetary pressure — coffee export revenues were volatile through the mid-1950s, and the government leaned heavily on note issuance to manage liquidity shortfalls. The eight-year print run spanning 1953–1961 reflects ongoing demand rather than a single discrete issue, and date variants within the series carry meaningfully different circulation histories.

De La Rue's intaglio work on Colombian notes of this period is among the finer output from their London presses — worth examining under magnification.
