Aanvullende informatie

Cuba's commemorative silver program of the 1980s frequently reached beyond national history, and this piece marks the 1825 opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway — the first public steam-hauled line, built under George Stephenson's direction after years of Parliamentary obstruction from canal interests who correctly understood what was coming. Cuba had its own early railroad history to speak of; the island's first line opened in 1837, predating any railway on the Spanish mainland.
