Part of the long-running series commemorating Mexico's 31 states and Federal District, this issue was produced by the Casa de Moneda under a program that ran from 2003 to 2007. The Distrito Federal entry came relatively late in the series, by which point the mint had refined its proof production process considerably from the early issues. Secondary market premiums within the series track unevenly — certain low-mintage state entries command multiples of spot, while the DF piece, representing the capital itself, was among the higher-mintage releases.
