Obverse description The national coat of arms of Mexico occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons. The eagle is rendered in fine proof relief against a mirror-polished field, with detailed feathering and a wreath of oak and laurel branches encircling the base. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering.
