| Legenda del rovescio | PROVINCIA DE MENDOZA LETRAS DE TESORERIA PETROM LEY 6982 Artículo 1°.- Autorízase al Poder Ejecutivo a contraer un empréstito público, representado por un programa de emisión de Letras de Tesorería denominadas PETROM, en una o varias series, hasta un importe máximo de PESOS CIENTO CINCUENTA MILLONES ($ 150.000.000). Este importe será destinado al pago de las obligaciones de la Provincia, incluidas las deudas devengadas con los Municipios. Artículo 3°.- Las Letras de Tesorería serán canceladas a su vencimiento y hasta que ello ocurra se garantizarán con un fondo público integrado por la afectación periódica de un porcentaje de los recursos que ingresen por regalías petrolíferas, sólo en la porción de recursos que a la Provincia le correspondan, según ley de participación municipal. Artículo 6°.- Las Letras de Tesorería serán nominadas en pesos y tendrán su vencimiento el 30 de marzo de 2007, fecha en que se cancelará el ciento treinta y cinco por ciento (135%) de su valor nominal. La amortización o rescate de las Letras de Tesorería será atendido con los recursos que se hayan acumulado en virtud de la afectación estipulada en el artículo 3°. (Translation: MENDOZA PROVINCE / PETROM TREASURY BILLS / LAW 6982 / Article 1: The Executive Power is authorised to take out a public loan represented by a programme of issuance of Treasury Bills called PETROM, in one or more series, up to a maximum amount of ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION PESOS ($150,000,000), to be used for the payment of provincial obligations including debts owed to Municipalities. / Article 3: The Treasury Bills shall be redeemed at maturity and until then shall be guaranteed by a public fund formed by the periodic allocation of a percentage of oil royalty revenues corresponding to the Province under the municipal participation law. / Article 6: The Treasury Bills shall be denominated in pesos and shall mature on 30 March 2007, on which date 135% of their nominal value shall be redeemed, funded from resources accumulated under the allocation stipulated in Article 3.) |

Mendoza's 2002 emergency note was one of dozens of provincial quasi-currencies — known collectively as "cuasimonedas" — that flooded Argentina following the December 2001 convertibility collapse and the federal freeze on bank deposits. With the peso pegged and then shattered, provinces lacking federal transfers began printing their own obligations to pay government salaries and keep local commerce moving. Mendoza's series circulated alongside similar instruments from Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, and Corrientes, among others.
Casa de Moneda printed these under contract, which gave the provincial notes a more finished appearance than some counterparts — La Rioja's "Riojanos," for instance, were produced under considerably less controlled conditions. Federal reabsorption of the cuasimonedas began in 2003.
