Chile's gold 10 Pesos of this period was tied directly to the country's adoption of the gold standard in 1895, a monetary reform pushed through after years of paper currency chaos following the 1891 Civil War. The Casa de Moneda in Santiago struck these almost entirely for export and settlement of foreign obligations rather than domestic circulation, which explains why worn examples are genuinely unusual.
KM#157 was produced across six years with relatively modest combined mintages. Most survivors reached Europe through trade accounts with British creditors.
