Obverse description Printed in red and black, the obverse carries Swedish text at the top and Finnish text in the lower centre, with a Czarist imperial eagle vignette at the left and a large bold numeral "10" at the right. Two manuscript signatures appear at the bottom centre, flanked by the series year in the lower margin. The overall layout is typical of mid-nineteenth-century letterpress banknote printing, with text-dominant design and minimal pictorial ornament.
Obverse lettering Tätä setelistä maksaa Suomen Pankki vaadittaissa Kymmenen Markkaa hopeassa.
(Translation: For this banknote, Bank of Finland will pay on demand Ten Marks in silver.)

Reverse lettering Kymmenen Markkaa. [Десять Марокъ] Tämän Setelin väärentäminen ja mukaaminen kuin myös vääräu setelin kauppaaminen rangaistaan kejsarill. Asetuksen mukaan 13 p.ltä huhtikuuta 1874.
(Translation: Ten Marks. [Russian] Falsifying and altering this Banknote, as well as passing a false banknote, is punishable by an imperial penalty, according to the decree of 13 April 1874.)
