The Inspektion der Kriegsgefangenenlager im Bereich des III. Armeekorps administered camps across the Brandenburg military district, with Frankfurt an der Oder serving as a regional coordination point for prisoner labor and housing. These camp scrip issues were a practical necessity — prisoners working in agriculture and light industry needed a means of exchange that could not be spent outside the wire, and Reichsmark-denominated currency was explicitly prohibited in camp hands under imperial regulations.
Ambrosius & Co. in Kirchhain was a minor commercial printer, not a security press. The signatures of Waldhausen and an unidentified adjutant authenticate individual batches rather than individual notes — the adjutant's name being illegible across virtually all surviving examples suggests a rubber stamp or rapid countersigning under wartime administrative pressure.
