The Inspektion der Kriegsgefangenenlager im Bereich des III. Armeekorps administered the prisoner-of-war camp network falling under the Third Army Corps district, headquartered at Cottbus. Camp scrip of this type was a deliberate administrative tool — by paying prisoners in currency redeemable only within the camp system, German authorities prevented specie from accumulating in enemy hands or funding escape attempts.
Ambrosius & Co. GmbH in Kirchhain, Niederlausitz printed numerous PoW camp series during the war years. The Waldhausen and Lödray signatures identify the Inspekteur and his Adjutant, a pairing consistent with the authorization structure used across Third Corps camp issues in 1917.
