The Inspektion der Kriegsgefangenenlager im Bereich des III. Armeekorps administered the prisoner-of-war camp network falling under the Third Army Corps district, headquartered at Cottbus. Camp scrip of this type was a deliberate administrative tool — by paying prisoners in currency redeemable only within the camp system, German authorities prevented specie from accumulating in enemy hands or funding escape attempts.
