Beschrijving voorzijde The national coat of arms of Lesotho occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with a crocodile and flanked by two rearing horses as supporters, all set upon a decorative base with a scroll bearing the national motto KHOTSO PULA NALA. The legend KINGDOM OF LESOTHO arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 10 MALOTI is inscribed along the lower periphery. A mintmaster's mark is visible to the lower left of the arms. The entire design is framed by a distinctive reeded border of semicircular indentations.

Beschrijving keerzijde A standing goalkeeper is depicted facing the viewer with arms folded, positioned before a full-size goalpost and net rendered in bold relief at the centre of the field. The numerals of the date 1982 appear at the goalkeeper's feet, integrated into the design. A football in motion is shown in the lower foreground. The curved legend WORLD FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP encircles the design along the upper and right periphery, commemorating the FIFA World Cup held in Spain that year. The reverse shares the same distinctive semicircular reeded border as the obverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Lesotho gained independence from Britain in 1966, but the Central Bank wasn't established until 1978, meaning this 1982 issue came relatively early in the institution's history of producing commemorative coinage. Moshoeshoe II's reign was anything but stable — he was twice dethroned by the military government of Leabua Jonathan and later by a 1990 coup, ultimately dying under disputed circumstances in 1996, officially attributed to a fall from a horse at Matsieng.

KM#32 was part of a broader series of silver issues produced in the early 1980s, largely for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation.
