The issuer's name "BANCA NAȚIONALĂ A MOLDOVEI" arches across the top, while the denomination "ZECE LEI" appears in bold letterpress below the vignette. Decorative guilloche borders run along both vertical edges, incorporating the bank monogram cipher and repeated numeral "10" in octagonal cartouches. |

Moldova's National Bank turned to the Banque de France printing works for its early emission series, a common arrangement for newly independent post-Soviet states lacking domestic security printing infrastructure. The 10 Lei entered circulation in 1994, just three years after Moldova declared independence and barely two years after the leu replaced the Soviet-era coupon system introduced during the monetary transition of 1992–93.
The series ran until 2013 without major redesign — an unusually long production window that reflects both fiscal conservatism and the note's stable purchasing role in everyday transactions.
