| Popis líce | The obverse is divided into two distinct zones by an elliptical frame. The left half of the field displays finely engraved reproductions of historic Romanian coins from 1870, including a 1 Leu and a 20 Lei piece bearing the effigy of Prince Carol I, rendered in a matte finish to evoke aged silver. Within the polished mirror ellipse on the right, the contemporary facade of the State Mint building in Bucharest is depicted in relief above the large denomination numerals '10 LEI'. The Romanian coat of arms appears to the lower right of the building, and the date '2015' is inscribed vertically along the right border. The legend 'ROMANIA' arcs along the left margin of the ellipse, with a dotted border encircling the entire design. |

Romania's State Mint — Casa de Monede — was established in 1870, two years after the introduction of the leu as the national currency under Prince Carol I. The 1870 founding was itself a political statement: producing coinage domestically rather than contracting to foreign mints like Birmingham or Brussels was an assertion of institutional independence for a country that had only formally unified Wallachia and Moldavia in 1859.
This commemorative marks the 145th anniversary of that founding.
