| 正面描述 | The national coat of arms of Angola occupies the central field, featuring a half cogwheel, a machete, and an open book at the base, with radiating sunrays rising from a landscape beneath a five-pointed star. The arms are encircled by a wreath and a scroll inscribed 'Republica Popular de Angola.' The legend REPUBLICA DE ANGOLA arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin characters, while the date 1999 appears in the lower exergue. |

Angola's 1999 coinage was issued during the final, grinding years of a civil war that had run almost continuously since independence in 1975. The Kwanza itself had been redenominated twice by this point — the readjusted Kwanza of 1995 replaced the earlier currency at 1,000:1, making this issue part of a monetary system still finding its footing amid active conflict. The UNITA-controlled interior saw virtually no formal banking, meaning circulation of these coins was geographically uneven from the day they were struck.
