The Antonov An-2 — the aircraft honored here — holds the unusual distinction of having the longest production run of any aircraft in history, manufactured continuously from 1947 into the 21st century across the Soviet Union, Poland, and China. Ukraine's claim to the type is legitimate: Oleg Antonov's design bureau was headquartered in Kyiv, and the An-2 was his first major production success.
Poland's PZL mielec facility built the overwhelming majority of total output under Soviet licensing, producing over 11,000 airframes.
