Ysper is a small market town in Lower Austria's Strudengau region, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the acute small-change shortage that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy. With the new republican government unable to supply adequate coin, hundreds of municipalities — including ones as modest as Ysper — commissioned their own Notgeld from local or regional printers. Siedler in nearby Pöggstall handled this series, keeping production strictly local.
Three signatories authenticated each note: the Bürgermeister, his deputy, and a council representative — an unusually formal arrangement for a village-scale emergency issue.
