Waldzell is a small Upper Austrian market commune, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities between 1920 and 1921, when postwar coin shortages made small-denomination paper a practical necessity rather than a collector exercise. C. Daringer's design credit is uncommon for a village-level issue — most Gemeinde Notgeld of this scale relied on generic print-shop stock layouts rather than named designers.
Bürgermeister Jakob Gefried's signature gives the note its local legal authority. Redemption obligations for Austrian municipal Notgeld were rarely enforced after the krone's collapse accelerated through 1922.
