| Obverse description | Letterpress-printed in red on plain uncoated paper, the obverse is arranged in two vertical panels: the left panel contains a central vignette within an Art Nouveau frame of intertwined branches showing a rocky riverside landscape with castle ruins atop a crag and a heraldic shield at the base, flanked by the denomination 'Zehn' and 'Heller' with the validity inscription 'Nur gültig bis 31. Dezember 1920' and facsimile signatures of issuing officials at the lower margin. The right panel carries the large numeral '10' at the top and a circular medallion vignette of Saint Nicholas in full bishop's vestments set within an ornate cartouche, with the issuer's name 'Marktgemeinde St. Nikola a/D. im Strudengau' in Gothic script below. The title 'Gut-Schein' is inscribed in a decorative banner at the upper centre of the left panel, and the printer's imprint appears along the lower edge. |

St. Nikola an der Donau is a small market town in Upper Austria where the Danube cuts through the Strudengau gorge — remote enough that obtaining small change from Vienna during the postwar Kleingeldnot was genuinely impractical. This 10 Heller note is one of several Notgeld denominations the Marktgemeinde issued to fill that gap, printed locally by J. M. Hiebl in the nearby town of Grein rather than sent to any major press. The official stamp is the sole security measure, which was entirely typical for municipal Austrian Notgeld of this period and generally sufficient given the hyper-local circulation intended.
