Comments

Pfarrwerfen is a village in the Salzach valley south of Salzburg, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities in 1920, it issued its own emergency scrip — Notgeld — to compensate for a chronic shortage of small coin that had persisted since the war years. The Kiesel press in Salzburg handled a significant portion of the regional Notgeld trade during this period, producing notes for multiple Salzburg-province communities in quick succession.

F.X. Stadler's involvement points to locally commissioned artwork rather than generic filler design, which was not universal for village-level issues of this denomination.
