Beschrijving voorzijde Violet notgeld printed on cream paper with a decorative leaf-and-scroll border framing the entire face. A central rectangular vignette presents a line-art view of a stone church with a pointed steeple, flanked by trees and a wayside cross, set against a hatched sky. The denomination numeral '10' appears in scalloped cartouches at upper left and upper right, with the value inscription 'HELLER' beneath each, and the issuer designation 'MARKTGEMEINDE' at lower left and 'MAUTHAUSEN.' at lower right in bold Gothic lettering. The notation '3. Auflage.' (3rd printing) appears below the lower border.

Beschrijving keerzijde Violet reverse on cream paper enclosed by a curling spiral-and-scroll decorative border. The municipal coat of arms — a crowned castle tower over a heraldic shield — occupies the centre as a vignette. A two-column liability text in Gothic script flanks the arms, declaring the market town's obligation to redeem the note in lawful currency within four weeks of announcement and warning that counterfeiting will be prosecuted. Below a ruled separator line, three facsimile signatures are printed with their respective titles: Vizebürgermeister, Bürgermeister, and Gemeinderat. The printer's imprint 'Buchdruckerei Enns' appears in small type at the bottom margin.

Opmerkingen

Mauthausen's wartime Heller notgeld was a purely local solution to the small-change famine that gripped Austria from 1915 onward, as metal coinage vanished into hoarding and industrial use. The Buchdruckerei in nearby Enns — a modest commercial printer, not a security press — handled production, which is exactly the kind of arrangement that makes Austrian municipal notgeld so variable in paper quality and print registration across the series.

Three signatories from the town council authenticated each note: the Bürgermeister, his deputy, and a Gemeinderat — an unusually full quorum for denominations this small.
