Mai 1920 Gutscheine aus im Gesamtbetrage von 30.000 Kr. und haftet dafür mit ihrem gesamten Vermögen. Diese Gutscheine werden bis 31. Dec. 1920 in gesetzl. Bargelde bei der Gemeindekasse eingelöst. Luftenberg, a small village on the Danube east of Linz, issued this note as part of the Austrian Notgeld wave that followed the economic collapse at the end of the First World War. The federal government simply could not produce enough small-change coinage to meet everyday needs, and by 1920 hundreds of Austrian municipalities had taken matters into their own hands. Gemeinde Luftenberg was among the smaller issuers — the series is scarce today precisely because so few were printed and the village's population was tiny.
L. Haase is credited on the design, a relatively uncommon instance of a named local designer on a provincial Notgeld piece.
