Lindabrunn is a small village in Lower Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized municipalities, it issued Notgeld in the early 1920s to address the acute small-change shortage that followed the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monetary system. These hyper-local issues were typically printed in tiny quantities — enough to serve immediate community needs — and a significant portion were collected rather than spent, which makes genuine wear on examples like this relatively uncommon.
Robert Leitner's involvement places this among the more deliberately designed pieces in the Lower Austrian Notgeld run, though Leitner produced work for multiple municipalities during this period.
