Lichtenegg bei Wels is a small municipality in Upper Austria, and this 10 Heller note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austria between roughly 1918 and 1922 — a period when chronic coin shortages, postwar economic dislocation, and the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system pushed even tiny rural communes to print their own emergency fractional currency.
