Gunskirchen is a small market town in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly sized municipalities, it issued Notgeld during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria from around 1920. These small-denomination emergency notes were printed locally, often on whatever paper was available, and redeemed within tight geographic limits — the issuing community being both guarantor and sole meaningful venue for exchange.
The Jaksc/Pick reference places this firmly within the documented Austrian municipal Notgeld corpus. Johann Brandstätter's signature as authorizing official is the note's only institutional anchor.
