Bad Aussee issued its own emergency small change during the acute coin shortage that gripped Austria in the immediate postwar years. These Notgeld issues were a purely local stopgap — the Marktgemeinde authorizing and distributing them as the national monetary system struggled to absorb the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Aug. Matthéy in Graz was a regional commercial printer, not a specialist security firm, which is exactly what you'd expect at this level of municipal issue.
The 10 Heller denomination places this among the smallest-value Notgeld produced in the Salzkammergut region. Bad Aussee was a salt-mining town; even modest commercial transactions required functional small change that simply wasn't available through official channels in 1920.
