Nezsider — now Neusiedl am See in Austria — housed one of the Austro-Hungarian Empire's internment camps during the First World War, and this Lagergeld was produced to keep prisoner transactions contained within the camp economy. The Globus printing house in Budapest, a commercially active firm well outside any military supply chain, handled the job — an unusual outsourcing arrangement that distinguishes this issue from the in-house or government-printed camp currencies more commonly encountered.
The dual denomination printed in both German and Hungarian reflects the administrative bilingualism of the k.u.k. bureaucracy, not the composition of the prisoner population.
