The design is framed by a decorative inner border of repeating chevron or zigzag motifs running along the inner rim. The word ESSAI is inscribed in widely spaced capital letters across the lower field, formally designating this piece as a pattern or trial strike. The composition as a whole reflects the agrarian identity and agricultural heritage of Mali. |
