| Obverse description | Draped bust of Marianne, the allegorical personification of the French Republic, facing left, wearing a winged helmet with flowing wavy hair. Two sailing ships appear in the lower field on either side of the truncation, evoking maritime themes. The engraver's signature L.BAZOR appears at lower left, with the initials GB at lower right, and the date 1964 in the exergue flanked by small decorative symbols. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the rim, with the word ESSAI inscribed vertically in the right field. The design is rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style characteristic of Bazor's work for the Monnaie de Paris. |
