| 正面描述 | Central cartouche bearing multi-line Arabic inscription naming the ruler Ahmad Muddat Bey of Tunisia and the denomination 10 Francs, with the Hijri date 1348 at the base. The cartouche is framed by an ornamental border, flanked on either side by stylized palm or wheat fronds in low relief. The outer rim is defined by a bold raised beaded or toothed border encircling the entire design. The overall layout follows the traditional format of Tunisian Bey-period coinage, with all legends rendered exclusively in Arabic script. This piece represents an obverse essai (trial strike) with the reverse left intentionally blank. |

Ahmad II Pasha Bey ruled Tunisia under the French Protectorate, and essais of this period were struck at the Paris Mint as trial pieces for proposed circulating coinage — submitted for administrative approval before production was authorized. The Lec#316a reference places this within Leconte's classification of French colonial and protectorate essais, a category notoriously difficult to census given their limited institutional distribution and the near-total absence of public sale records from the era.
The unresolved KM designation reflects how thinly documented these Tunisian protectorate trials remain in mainstream references.
