Aanvullende informatie

Issued as part of the Monnaie de Paris's long-running "Grands Hommes" series, this piece commemorates the 2010 centenary — not of Picasso's birth, but of his first sustained period in Paris, which began around 1904 when he settled permanently in Montmartre. By 2010 the series had grown inconsistent in collectibility, and silver issues from this run circulate freely in the secondary market at modest premiums.

Picasso was Spanish-born and never took French citizenship, a fact that made his 1944 public enrollment in the French Communist Party a considerable diplomatic irritant.
