Encircling the upper listel is the commemorative legend 'CINQUANTIÈME ANNIVERSAIRE DU NOUVEAU FRANC', rendered in the typographic style of the historic 1 centime coinage. The dual dates '1960 2010' appear prominently in the field, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Franc Pinay, also known as the Franc de Gaulle, introduced by the monetary reform of 1960.
