背面描述 The reverse depicts a fully rigged 16th-century Spanish galleon under sail, rendered in fine detail after an engraving by José Espinós Gisbert (1877–1956), who joined the Casa de la Moneda in 1924 as an auxiliary coin engraver. The vessel is shown in three-quarter view with billowing sails, its hull and rigging faithfully representing the period warship associated with the age of exploration and transatlantic contact. The legend ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS arcs across the upper field, evoking the theme of the encounter between the Old and New Worlds. The mint mark M and the year 2002 appear in the lower portion of the field.

附加信息

This piece belongs to a commemorative series launched by the Real Casa de la Moneda to mark Spain's adoption of the euro in 2002 — a politically loaded moment in which the peseta, in circulation since 1869, was retired overnight. The galleon subject was a deliberate choice, anchoring the new currency to an imperial maritime past at the precise moment Spain surrendered monetary independence to Frankfurt.

The KM#1089 designation places it firmly within the first wave of Spanish euro commemoratives, struck in the same year circulation coinage changed hands in shops.
