Issued to mark the 170th anniversary of the Spanish postal service, Correos y Telégrafos traces its institutional roots to 1846, when the telegraph network was formally integrated with the existing royal mail infrastructure under a unified state body. Spain was among the earlier European nations to consolidate these services under a single administrative umbrella, a structural decision that shaped how the network expanded into the colonies through the remainder of the nineteenth century.
