| 背面描述 | The reverse illustrates the legendary discovery of the Erzberg iron mountain, depicting two men who have captured a water newt (Nörgl) sleeping in the sun. According to Styrian legend, the creature offered the men a choice of reward in exchange for its freedom: gold for one year, silver for ten years, or iron forever. The two men chose iron, thereby discovering the great iron mountain. The scene is rendered in richly detailed relief with a narrative, fairy-tale quality. The legend ENTDECKUNG DES ERZBERGES is inscribed within the design. |
