Obverse description The Maltese national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a George Cross above vertical stripes, flanked by two symmetrical olive branches, and surmounted by a mural crown. A scroll at the base of the arms bears the legend REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA. The country name MALTA appears to the left and the date 2020 to the right, both along the inner border. Thirteen five-pointed stars are arranged around the periphery of the coin within a raised outer rim, referencing the European Union motif.
