| 正面描述 | The obverse features two stylized theatrical masks rendered in an ornate, curvilinear decorative style evoking ancient Greek artistic motifs, positioned face-to-face in the central field. A small floral rosette ornament appears between the masks at centre. The denomination numeral '10' is inscribed below the masks, with the legend 'ΕΥΡΩ' beneath it. The Greek coat of arms — a white cross on a blue shield within a laurel wreath — is displayed at the upper centre of the field, flanked by the circular legend 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ' in Greek script. The entire design is framed by a continuous Greek meander (key) border running along the inner edge of the coin. |

Part of Greece's long-running "Ancient Greek Technology" series, this issue commemorates Aristophanes not as a dramatist but as a technical mind — his comedies, particularly The Clouds, contain some of the earliest literary descriptions of mechanical devices and experimental philosophy, including a pointed satire of Socratic science that got him into lasting trouble with Athenian intellectuals.
The series was issued during the height of the Greek debt crisis, when the country's mint output had been dramatically curtailed. Collector silver remained one of the few revenue streams the Hellenic state could reliably monetize abroad.
