| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely modelled left-facing portrait bust of the ancient Greek comic playwright Aristophanes, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail in his curly hair and full beard. To the right of the portrait, a stylized theatrical mask is depicted in the same ornate curvilinear decorative style as the obverse, evoking classical Greek theatrical tradition. The year of issue '2015' is inscribed in the upper field, and the engraver's monogram 'ΣΤΜ' appears below the bust. The lower legend reads 'ΑΡΙΣΤΟΦΑΝΗΣ 445–385 π.Χ.' in Greek script, denoting the playwright's name and dates. The design is enclosed by a continuous Greek meander border along the inner rim. |
