| Obverse description | Central device depicts a stylised section of a Toblerone chocolate bar rendered in relief, showing the characteristic triangular prismatic form with vertical ribbing across the upper face and floral decorative elements emerging from the upper right corner. The legend ESSAI - PATTERN - PROBE arcs along the upper periphery in bold raised Latin lettering, with the date 2003 placed at the base of the design in the lower exergue. The overall composition references the iconic Swiss confectionery brand as a thematic motif for this fantasy pattern piece. |

Switzerland never joined the Eurozone, but between 2003 and 2004 a private initiative produced a series of unofficial euro-denomination pattern pieces colloquially dubbed the "Toblerone Edition" — named for the triangular Alpine mountain motif borrowing visual associations from the famous confectionery brand. These were never submitted to any monetary authority and carry no legal tender status in any jurisdiction. The "Essai/Pattern/Probe" triple designation reflects the piece's positioning for collectors across French-, German-, and English-speaking markets simultaneously.
