| 表面の説明 | The obverse features a portrait of Rigas Fereos (1757–1798), the celebrated Greek Enlightenment intellectual, revolutionary, and proto-nationalist figure, rendered in left-facing profile relief within the central field. The legend «ΡΗΓΑΣ ΦΕΡΑΙΟΣ» arcs around the upper portion of the design, while the denomination «10 ΛΕΠΤΑ» and the date appear in the lower field. The mintmaster's initials «ΓΣ» appear below the portrait. The design is framed by the twelve stars of the European Union arranged along the outer border, a motif common to all Greek euro coinage of this period. |

Greece was among the original twelve eurozone members when euro coins entered circulation on January 1, 2002, but the transition was politically charged — a significant portion of the Greek public opposed abandoning the drachma, one of the oldest named currencies in history, in continuous use in various forms since the 6th century BC. The 2002 issues were partly struck at foreign mints to meet demand, and coins produced at those facilities carry small mint marks distinguishing them from Athens-struck pieces.
