Designer attributions appear in the lower field in incuse lettering: M. NORTE SCULP for the sculptor Marcelino Norte de Almeida and MARTINS BARATA DEL. for the designer Jaime Martins Barata. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-twentieth century Portuguese Republican coinage, combining restrained classicism with patriotic symbolism. |

The word PROVA, confirming the trial or pattern status of the piece, appears in incuse lettering to the right of the shield.
