Beschrijving voorzijde A finely detailed caravel under full sail occupies the central field, depicted in right profile in a style evoking Portugal's maritime heritage. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA is rendered in incuse lettering, with the date 1961 positioned in incuse below the vessel. Designer attributions appear in the lower field in incuse lettering: M. NORTE SCULP for the sculptor Marcelino Norte de Almeida and MARTINS BARATA DEL. for the designer Jaime Martins Barata. The overall composition is characteristic of mid-twentieth century Portuguese Republican coinage, combining restrained classicism with patriotic symbolism.

Beschrijving keerzijde The Portuguese coat of arms dominates the central field, featuring the traditional white escutcheon charged with five blue inescutcheons arranged in a quincunx, each bearing five silver bezants in saltire, all set within a red bordure charged with seven gold castles. Flanking the shield are olive branches and an armillary sphere, emblematic of Portugal's navigational legacy. The denomination 10$00 is rendered in large incuse numerals below the arms. The word PROVA, confirming the trial or pattern status of the piece, appears in incuse lettering to the right of the shield. The border is ornamented with a decorative ring of Maltese crosses and geometric devices.
